A team from Caledon Casino, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tsogo Sun Gambling Investments, went to Nomzamo to spread some warmth to the victims of flooding and storm damage in the township on Tuesday (16 July). Food hampers and blankets packaged and delivered by Giant Hyper Cape Gate were dropped off at the Nomzamo Community Hall for distribution to 800 victims and 200 little ones of an orphanage in the township. Lynton January, general manager of the Caledon complex, said they championed the task of recognising a need and offering assistance, which would be of great impact. “We have had many CSI projects in the area and, with R500 000 made available by head office for our disposal, we were in a position to help,” he said. According to January the humanitarian relief effort was well received by community leaders, ward councillors and identified beneficiaries, who expressed their gratitude. Photos: Yaseen Gaffar

Ward 86 councillor Xolani Diniso thanked Lynton January, general manager of the Caledon complex, for the generous handover.

Volunteers assisted in offloading the food parcels, which arrived in a truck for distribution at the Nomzamo Community Hall.

A true sense of community spirit was displayed as volunteers worked together to carefully package the parcels for ease of distribution.

A total of 800 food parcels were handed out at the Nomzamo Community Hall, and a further 200 to a local orphanage.
