Volunteers Lucille Kruger (event chair), Fadwa Walker (Cansa) and Chad Abrahams were in high spirits at the start of the event.

The annual Cansa Relay For Life Helderberg took place at Hottentots Holland High School on Saturday 30 September through to Sunday 1 October, where a theme of “Shipwreck” was embraced by all.

Cancer survivors and those still going through treatment and their caregivers were the special guests of honour at the event, which attracted more than 100 participants.

The event started at 18:00 when a 12–hour relay commenced and ended at 06:00 the next morning. Candles were lit in remembrance of those taken by cancer, and throughout the night a host of activities kept everyone on their feet. Floating trophies were handed out for best team spirit, best plot, most active and best cancer awareness.

In all, an amount of just over R84 500 was raised for Cansa. For more details on Cansa Relay for Life Helderberg, contact Lucille Kruger on 072 928 6135 or email rflcansa@gmail.com.
