Vergelegen Plein Shopping Centre, a well-established convenience destination that opened in 2015, proudly announced the opening of its Phase 2 expansion on Thursday 29 February, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing transformation of this retail hub.

Recently bought by owners Moolman Group and ColKru/Collins Property Projects, Vergelegen Plein has enjoyed firm support from the community, leading to the undertaking by the owners to expand and improve the centre. This expansion project is part of a comprehensive redevelopment plan spanning four phases, adding approximately 12 000 m² of space to the centre and elevating the total Gross Lettable Area (GLA) to 18 000 m².

Woolworths and Clicks, two of the anchor tenants, are expanding their presence within the centre. Additionally, the introduction of an exceptionally beautiful Woolworths Café adds a new dimension to the shopping experience. The third anchor, Checkers, continues to play a pivotal role in Verglegelen Plein’s position as a premier shopping destination, and will also be expanding and relaunching as part of next phases.

“We are thrilled to unveil Phase 2 of the Vergelegen Plein expansion, which represents a significant investment in Somerset West’s retail landscape,” said representatives from Moolman Group and ColKru/Collins Property Projects. “This expansion not only enhances the shopping experience for our visitors but also reinforces our commitment to delivering excellence in retail.”

Situated on the corner of Old Sir Lowrys Pass Road and Bizweni Avenue, Vergelegen Plein benefits from superb visibility and excellent accessibility for local shoppers. The centre is just minutes away from the bustling Somerset West CBD and near the town’s expansive new residential developments. The region has seen significant growth, with gated estates such as Fernwood Estate, Fairhaven Country Estate, Meerhof Estate, Somerset Country Estate and Somerset Lakes, transforming the landscape.

The architects created a contemporary, up-market design, and added to this is a tenant mix tailored to appeal to local shoppers and meet their daily needs.

Existing tenants who have upgraded as part of the phase-2 expansion are: Woolworths Food, Clicks, Vergelegen Optometrist, Fivestar Mediterranean Barber, The Health Kick, Placecol, Pink and About Cats and Dogs.

New tenants joining for the launch are: Woolworths Café, Queenspark, Queue Shoes, Whitehouse, Mr Price Home, Elgin Pure, NAP Living and Old Khaki.

Another highlight of upcoming developments at Vergelegen Plein is the addition of several new eateries. Nando’s is set to open on 14 April, with Mugg & Bean welcoming patrons on 31 May. With even more to come, these eateries are set to become local favourites, offering a special mix of delicious food and panoramic views of the surroundings.

Attention to detail, beautiful finishing touches, generous parking and ease of access add up to an inspiring and enjoyable experience.

As Vergelegen Plein continues to expand it is still committed to delivering exceptional shopping experiences and fostering a sense of community engagement. Whether shopping for everyday essentials, indulging in culinary delight or simply enjoying a leisurely day out, visitors can expect nothing short of excellence at Vergelegen Plein Shopping Centre.
