Employees of Rheinmetall Denel Munition (RDM) paid tribute to each of the eight victims of the fatal explosion with a memorial tree planting ceremony held at the local depot on Friday (2 September). The commemorative initiative marked the fourth anniversary of the devastating tragedy on Saturday 3 September, which sent shock waves through the community and its surrounds. RDM staffers planted a beechwood tree in remembrance of each of the Denel 8, plant supervisor Nico Angelo Samuels (41), team leader Stevon Robert Isaacs (51), and operators Mxolisi Sigadla (40), Bradley Tandy (18), Jamie Lesley Haydricks (24), Jason Hartzenberg (22), Triston Lance Davids (21) and Thandolwethu Mankayi (27), who were killed in the blast on Monday 3 September 2018. The heartfelt gesture was succeeded with the gathering of affected families at the memorial wall and garden established at the RDM depot and dedicated to the memory of their loved ones following the tragic loss.
