Strand resident Kira Bester (left) and her paddling partner Candice Murray were in action at this year’s Prescient Freedom Paddle, which is symbolic of the country’s triumphant road to democracy and freedom, held in Cape Town yesterday (Wednesday 27 April). The duo, who won the women’s doubles title in last year’s race with a finishing time of 2:12:33, were again eyeing the spoils heading into the iconic race around Robben Island. They train with the Orca Squad in Cape Town. The outcome of the 27 km race from Oceana Power Boat Club around Robben Island and back, was not known at the time of going to print.
