Young Bafana (YB) Soccer Academy hosted the official opening of the YB Arena on Saturday (23 April) at the new premises situated along Prima Drive in Broadlands, Strand.

The state-of-the-art facility comprises two full size soccer fields, a gym, two change-rooms, an office and education centre, two astro-turf fields and their very own bus-stop.

In attendance were invited guests, sponsors, players and all those who have supported YB in some way or form, as well as some of the YB academy players.

Young Bafana founder Bernd Steinhage took to the stage where he not only welcomed everybody present, but also thanked every individual, business and sponsors who believed in YB from the beginning and continue to do so.

He shed some light on the history of their beginnings and his desire to not only establish a well-run academy, but also a place where children’s lives will be impacted and changed for the better.

“Not every child who joins our academy will become professional, but every child who joins us will have a positive impact on their lives. This is our true purpose,” he said.

This was followed by an entertainment item by local artist Litha Ndikolo, who goes by the name ‘Melody’, after which co-director Lennard Wohner of Germany also addressed everyone present.

He acknowledged the journey to this point and the potential that the academy still has, and asked for the continued support of those that have made the official opening possible.

Guest enjoyed coffee, beer and pizza before a ribbon ceremony was held and a show match was played.
