In an effort to help rebuild their lives, victims of the two January fires in Macassar have received building materials from the national Department of Human Settlements. The first fire occurred in Deep Freeze on Thursday 9 January, and the second blaze ravaged the Nyakathisa informal settlement in Macassar on Monday 27 January. The Ward 109 Development Forum campaigned for the victims and others in Macassar for service plots to be provided by the City of Cape Town. The building materials are the last piece of the puzzle to rebuild their lives. Pictured is Levina Tembo smiling broadly as she stands next to her nearly completed new home.
