Strand Fire Station boasts a newly renovated kitchen worth thousands of rands forked out by a local business that marked Mandela Day by making a difference in the community.
Timber City Strand, leader in board products and cabinet hardware, championed the R100 000 renovation project, which entailed a major overhaul of the local fire station’s kitchen cupboards.
According to Strand Fire Station’s divisional commander Anthony Manuel, the project wheels were set in motion on Friday 17 June, following conversations between business representatives and firefighter Adriaan Abrahams, which culminated in the completion of the renovation on Saturday 16 July.
“The previous kitchen had major problems as the sink cupboard was damaged and should have been replaced as well as maintenance needed to the other kitchen cupboards. Timber City Strand took out all the existing cupboards and gifted Strand Fire Station a completely new cabinetry that is a total upgrade of the kitchen area,” said Manuel.
“This upgrade to the kitchen means a lot to the firefighting staff and not only are they thankful for this valued gift, but also very excited to renovate the rest of the kitchen area starting with a fresh lick of paint for the walls to match the new cupboards.”
Manuel further expressed the collective gratitude of the Fire and Rescue Service, thanking all role-players involved in the “heartfelt” project including Timber City Strand, their installers and granite supplier. “We also want to give thanks to each member of the teams for going the extra mile for use as servants to the community. We honour you in honour of Nelson Mandela’s legacy and we will continue to give our best for the community of the City of Cape Town.”
