Lwandle police are requesting assistance from the broader Helderberg community with information that could help track down the suspects connected to a murder that took place outside Khanyolwethu Secondary School on Friday 8 November.
Shortly before midnight a security guard was gunned down in front of the school in Noxolo Street, Lwandle.
According to Lwandle police spokesperson Sergeant Mthokozisi Gama the security guard was targeted after responding to the school’s alarm, which went off around 23:30.
“On arrival at the school he parked his car outside the gate,” he related. “As he stood outside to see what was happening unknown suspects opened fire at the 51-year-old victim, who was shot in the head twice and fatally wounded. They took his firearm and fled the scene.”
Gama confirmed the motive for the fatal shooting remained unclear, and formed part of the murder and armed robbery case which is being investigated by detectives.
Anyone with information that could aid the investigation and lead to a breakthrough in the case is urged to contact Lwandle police detective branch commander Captain Dhanabalan Pillay on 021 845 2060.
