Residents of Macassar and surrounding areas welcomed the prospect of a brand-new Career Community Centre established in the community, which was unveiled by Rheinmetall Denel Munition (RDM) earlier this week.
The new community asset aims to provide training and career support for job seekers, and services offered at the centre include assistance with resumé writing, creating a winning LinkedIn profile and interview coaching, and exposing job seekers to available online career platforms.
At the ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday (29 November) RDM CEO Jan Patrick Helmsen said: “RDM wants to support our neighbours in Macassar with a fully-fledged career centre, solely dedicated to empowering job seekers with necessary skills to compete in the job market. The facility boasts internet access, computers and themed programmes.”
Furthermore, the local munitions manufacturer has availed its human resource expertise to provide on-site support to job seekers, to help them reach their full potential, because it believes Macassar boasts great talent and potential. Based on the company’s social responsibility policy, the career centre seeks to contribute meaningfully to its host communities. Job seekers can expect programmes such as job preparedness training, basic computer training, job surfing, CV development and CV dissemination. A database of job seekers will also be compiled and sent to the Department of Labour.
“This is an amazing and much-needed initiative for our community,” said Ward 109 Councillor Peter Helfrich. “When I met with the CEO and his team in August we spoke about the centre and only three months down the line they invited our community to the launch. Our community is very happy about the community centre and thanks RDM for this amazing initiative.”
The career centre doors will open between 08:00 to 16:00 from Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays), starting from 16 January next year. Those who wish to access these services can visit the local ammunitions depot located on Reeb Road.
