These Raithby and Somerset West community members are among others from Sir Lowry’s Pass who have joined forces with police in the fight against crime. The group has been trained as Community in Blue patrollers who will aid police in efforts to curb crime. The objective of the Community in Blue initiative is to promote the reporting of criminal activities and suspicious behaviour, and increase invisibility through active community participation to prevent crime. The duties of a Community in Blue patroller will be within their own residential areas, unless redeployed on operational needs and availability with an invitation of respective Community Policing Forum Executive or by direction of the Station Commander. The group will work closely with the Sector Commander and community patrol groups. It is important to note patrollers have no police status and their legal authority is limited to that of an ordinary private individual aligned to the Criminal Procedure Act 1977 (Sections 42 and 47).
