The first team of Hottentots-Holland Cricket Club (HHCC) suffered a batting collapse against Bishop Lavis CC in a match played at the Navy Sports Grounds on Saturday (18 March).
The game was reduced to 28 overs due to a wet pitch. HHCC batted first and were in early trouble at 20-4, but a good 65-runs partnership between Mieftaah Oliver and Rewayne Viljoen steadied the ship for HHCC, which eventually ended up on 118 all out. Oliver (49) and Viljoen (23) top scored.
With ball in hand HHCC had a determined fight, but the total proved a little too low as Bishop Lavis secured a five wicket victory in the final over. Guillaume Jansen (three wickets) was the top bowler for HHCC.
The local club’s third team faced neighbours Somerset West CC at Radloff Park. Somerset West batted first and posted a competitive 185 all out. Shakeel Railoun starred with ball in hand as he grabbed 5-37 for HHCC.
In the batting department HHCC crumbled to 85 all out with none of the batsmen reaching any valuable totals. The second team game was cancelled due to water-logged grounds.
On Tuesday 21 March, HHCC was scheduled to travel to Green Point Track to face United CC in a winner takes all clash for the Western Province First Division B League title, the outcome of which will be published in next week’s edition.
