Die Macassar-polisie ondersoek ‘n saak van strafbare manslag nadat ‘n vermeende manlike voetganger Saterdag 15 Maart op die N2-snelweg doodgery is. Die voorval het omstreeks 05:20 naby die vulstasie rigting Somerset-Wes plaasgevind. Die oorledene, wat steeds onbekend is, het glo die pad oorgesteek toe hy deur ‘n voertuig, ‘n wit Toyota Corolla, getref is. Volgens ‘n polisiewoordvoerder het verskeie ander voertuie, insluitend ‘n vragwa, oor die liggaam gery en dit vergruis. Enigiemand met inligting wat kan help om die ongelukslagoffer te identifiseer, word aangespoor om na vore te kom en vir speursersant Bukiwe Mayazeni by die polisiekantoor te bel.
Gordon’s Bay police have opened an inquest docket after a body was found hanging from a railway bridge on Sir Lowry’s Pass along the N2 on Thursday 13 March. According to police officers they responded to the scene where the body of an identified man was disco-
vered around 18:00. The deceased was formally identified as a Lwandle resident and his family has been notified.
Somerset West police arrested two men, aged 40 and 21, in Garden Village on Monday 10 March, following a tip-off regarding stolen property. According to Sergeant Suzan Jantjies, spokesperson for Somerset West police, officers responded to information around 19:00. “On arrival, officers discovered a yellow mountain bike, which the 40-year-old suspect could not provide proof of ownership for, leading to his immediate arrest. A subsequent search of the premises resulted in the recovery of a red Trek bicycle, valued around R80 000. The 21-year-old suspect, allegedly intending to sell the high-value bicycle, was also arrested.” Both suspects appeared in the Somerset West Magistrates’ Court on charges of possession of stolen property.
A young man found to be in possession of drugs was arrested by Somerset West police during a stop-and-search operation in Mahanyele Street, Sir Lowry’s Pass on Monday 10 March. The 24-year-old was found to be in possession of 20 mandrax tablets and 20 small packets containing tik. In the same operation, executed in Garden Village, a 59-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of 20 half-mandrax tablets around 20:30.
A 54-year-old man was arrested at his Somerset West home on Monday 10 March in connection with the 2021 death of his wife. On Saturday 20 November 2021 police responded to an incident in Schoongezicht Street, Somerset West, around 14:30. On arrival, officers found the body of a 40-year-old woman. Initially, an inquest docket was opened, and the case handed over to Western Cape provincial police detectives for further investigation. “Following a thorough investigation it was determined the deceased was murdered,” said Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm Pojie, spokesperson for Western Cape police. The suspect appeared in Somerset West Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 11 March, on charges of premeditated murder and defeating the ends of justice. Western Cape spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority Eric Ntabazalila confirmed the case had been postponed to Tuesday 13 May for further investigation.
