The first team of Macassar RFC produced a commendable performance to overcome Blue Stars United on a blustery afternoon at Klapmuts Sports Ground to secure an 18-43 victory on Saturday (23 July).
Chris Langeveld’s side ran in six tries to close off the contest with an awesome display of forward muscle and backline inspiration.
The MC Boys hadn’t been firing on all cylinders in the previous few matches. Injury concerns dampened the fluidity somewhat, but the 23-man side showed class to reassure the MC faithful of their aspirations at the weekend.
Langeveld was pleased with the middle period of the match, but concedes the start from his team was inadequate, leaving them with plenty to ponder ahead of next weekend’s home fixture against Albions RFC.
“In the middle quarter, I was delighted with the composure and attitude; we’ve struggled with momentum in the middle period lately,” Langeveld said. “But it’s a good win, we’ve put a stake in the ground for play-offs and we’re looking forward to next week.”
The coach’s comments were echoed by the MC Boys captain Clint Stewart: “Our poor discipline just allowed them a few points in the game, so I’m sure this is going to be a big thing in the review this week. We have to make sure we carry the momentum going ahead. I’m delighted with the impact of Wayne Herbert and Dillon Booysen, as both were promoted from the second team and were exceptional on the day.”
The MC Boys now occupy third place on the log with a game in hand to second-placed Kylemore. Strand RFC are still firmly in pole position despite conceding their first loss to fourth-placed CPUT over the weekend.
