The 33 000 Mandrax tablets that were discovered in the car a suspect was driving on Sir Lowry’s Pass.

This past weekend the Hawks in conjunction with other departments confiscated R1,3 million worth of mandrax in Somerset West.

The Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (Saneb), based in Bellville, together with CI Counter Narcotics and Gangs as well as Public Order Policing (Pops) arrested a 38-year-old man, Nkosixolile Seun Ngxazozo from Philippi for possession of the drugs.

The arrest followed the team’s reaction to information about a vehicle en-route to Cape Town suspected of carrying a consignment of drugs.

They caught up with the vehicle travelling in the direction of Somerset West, and stopped it on Sir Lowry’s pass. A search of the vehicle ensued and the members found 33 000 mandrax tablets.

The team also seized the vehicle, a silver Mercedes-Benz. The suspect appeared in the Strand Magistrates’ Court on a charge of dealing in drugs and the case has been postponed until Monday 19 September for bail information. He remains in custody until his next court appearance.
