Jubilee FC in Strand are playing well in the Helderberg Soccer League, currently first on the log.

The Jubilee Football Club, based in Strand, is fast becoming a soccer team to be reckoned with following a successful past couple of years, which have seen the team reach new heights and accolades.

Formed 20 years ago as a means of keeping the youth off the streets, it has seen steady progress over the years. Jubilee attracts diverse players from different backgrounds, many hailing from the communities of Gustrouw, Weltevreden and Broadlands.

“We have countless success stories to tell,” Jubilee FC coach Bradley Martin related. For instance, he said, a youngster trapped in gangsterism, and who spent time in prison, is now completely transformed and one of the squad’s superstars. Two years ago Jubilee joined the Helderberg Soccer League, propelling them to play above their level and make a mark on the local soccer scene.

“We are currently first on the log standings, which is testament not only to the hard work done by the club, but also the commitment of the players and support from the community.”

He also extended a word of gratitude and thanks to Specsavers Strand for a recent donation of soccer boots, water bottles and balls, which “will go a long way in assisting the youngsters with the necessary resources to see them soar”.

“We are immensely grateful for the donations, for they are a big investment in our club, so it is appreciated so much.” Martin also mentioned other key sponsors TNT Accountants and André du Plessis and Associates.
