The City’s Macassar housing project, to accommodate up to 2 469 beneficiaries, is making steady progress.
Construction of the R132 million housing project is taking place in stages. Phase 1 comprised the civil works for 605 erven. It was completed last April and construction of the houses for Phase 1 is expected to start in March. The civil works for Phase 2 is to be completed in October this year and the civil works for Phase 3 is to be completed next June, if all goes according to plan.
“Close to major transport routes and community facilities, this is another example of the City’s delivery in action of opportunities on well-located suitable pieces of land,” said the City’s Mayoral Committee member for human settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi, who visited the site on Monday (12 September) to check on the progress.
He said that construction of houses is earmarked to start in March next year.
Beneficiaries of all City housing projects are selected in accordance with the City’s Housing Allocation Policy and the City’s Housing Needs Register to ensure housing opportunities are made available in a fair, transparent manner that prevents queue jumping and to those who qualify for housing as per the South African legislation.
