Police officers from Lwandle are searching for suspects involved in three murders in the area.

Two murder cases were reported on Monday 29 May and a third on Tuesday 30 May.

According to Sergeant Mthokozisi Gama, spokesperson for Lwandle police, the first murder took place in Freedom Park informal settlement, Asanda Village, at 07:00 on Monday.

“Two unknown men were gruesomely assaulted by community members and their bodies left at a small river in the area,” he related. “One man was discovered in the river and there was no sign of life.

“The other survived and was sent to Helderberg Hospital. A case of murder and attempted murder was opened.”

Gama said the second murder took place at the Robben Island informal settlement in Nomzamo around 09:00.

“The unknown man was discovered naked with multiple injuries all over his body, and it is alleged he was also assaulted by community members.”

The third murder took place on Tuesday at 10:05 in Mxolisi Street, Nomzamo.

“It is alleged a 33-year-old man was assaulted by community members and later taken to Helderberg Hospital for medical treatment, where he was pronounced dead on arrival,” Gama said.

Lwandle police say the motive for these cases is not yet clear.

“No arrests had been made yet and we appeal to community members to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.”

The investigating officer Branch Commander Detective Captain Dhanabalan Pillay can be contacted on 079 894 0119 if anyone has any information on these cases.
