Helderberg High School bade farewell to one of its long serving staff members earlier this month. Frieder van Hörsten will step out of the classroom and into retirement after years of service to the school. He joined the school as an Afrikaans teacher in 1998 and soon became involved with the organisation of the school’s annual nature and photography tours, as depicted in the photo, around South Africa and Namibia. The tours have always been a highlight for many learners during their schooling careers. Van Hörsten also fulfilled the role of acting deputy principal for eight years and enjoyed being part of the staff complement, along with wife Michelle, who taught English at the school from 2001 until her retirement in 2018.Foto:
