Residents of Somerset West have been informed of upcoming roadworks that will take place along Irene Avenue between Helderberg College and Rue Montpellier Road in the area.
According to the City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate if all goes as planned the scheduled work will start this week and take place between 09:00 and 15:30 from Monday to Saturday over the next five weeks.
- The City will ensure one lane of Irene Avenue will remain open to traffic while work is underway, and all lanes are open during peak-hour periods: between 06:00 and 09:00, and between 15:30 and 18:30 to minimise the impact on road users. The scope of the work entails:• Installation and re-alignment of stormwater channels;• Removing the existing asphalt surfacing and replacing the old surface with hot-mix asphalt;• Reinstating the road marking; and• Replacing and realigning kerbs shoved or damaged by tree roots. “I ask that residents in the area cooperate and be patient with our team over the next month as we complete the work along Irene Avenue,” said Mayco Member for Urban Mobility Councillor Rob Quintas. “Our teams have tried to schedule the work at the most convenient time during the day to limit the impact on traffic flow. Still I advise that motorists please consider using alternative routes if possible to avoid delays. Residents in the area will soon all benefit from this new road surface. For additional information, contact the Transport Information Centre (toll-free 24/7) on 0800 65 64 63 or email transport.info@capetown.gov.za.
