International Masters Cricket has announced the dates, fixtures and venues for the inaugural over-40 World Cup, which takes place in Cape Town from Monday 19 February to Friday 1 March.

The 12-team tournament will feature no fewer than 42 games, and Strand will be well represented by two players, Jaco Castle and Abdul-Aziz Temoor as well as umpire Chris Roos.

This is what they had to say about the upcoming tournament:

Abdul-Aziz Temoor

Abdul-Aziz Temoor

Abdul-Aziz Temoor: I feel proud and privileged, all praise to God, I never expected to be selected as there are so many other great players all over South Africa that would say it should’ve been them too and rightly so as they also done well in the recent two tournaments held in Johannesburg. Selectors have put faith in me and the 16-man squad that hopefully will win. My expectations are high in terms of taking wickets where it matters, to take risks with the last throw of the dice and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. It’s about setting standards and the tempo, and taking control and getting the upper hand. As a South African the ideal final would be against Australia, so I hope we do well and meet them in the final or semi-final.

Jaco Castle

Jaco Castle: To represent your country is a great honour and privilege, and that has always been a childhood dream of mine. It does not matter at what age it comes, for someone it will always be a great honour to represent your country. I’m looking forward to the experience and hopefully as a team we can come back with the trophy.

Chris Roos

Chris Roos: It shows one is never too old to play the game and learn. It’s great to see so much veterans’ cricket taking place all over the world. From my side I feel it’s a privilege to represent Western Province umpires and my country.
