All Saints RFC struggled against Franschhoek in a Super League B clash at the Helderzicht Sports Grounds on Saturday 29 June. The hosts suffered a 21-31 defeat.
Coming off an away win against Vineyards, Franschhoek looked strong in the opening minutes of the game and outplayed the home side to jump to a 0-14 lead at the break, starving All Saints of possession in the opening stanza.
Saints replacements Odwa Gwee (flanker) and Rhoden November (centre) sparked the Olla Boys from the bench. The visitors kept applying scoreboard pressure through another try and penalty, while Saints managed two tries through November and prop Leodine Latief, both converted by flyhalf Dylan Scholtz.
The visitors managed to score their fourth try through their threatening broken play attacks to lead 14-31. Saints created multiple opportunities in the dying moments, and eventually scored through Aiden January. The try was converted by Scholtz, but by that time Franschhoek had done enough and ran out winners over the home team.
In Super League A, Helderberg Rugby Club returned to winning ways as they recovered from two losses to convincingly win their home game against CPUT by 54-17. In the process Berge, through eight different players, scored eight exhilarating tries.
In the first half, centre Bradley Mentoor opened the scoring, followed by prop Tristan Leitch and hooker Mauritz Swart. Then it was the turn of the flankers Erhard Lambrecht and Jady Labuschagne with scrumhalf Michael Visser converting four of the five-pointers.
Berge led 33-10 at half-time.
In the second half further tries were added by winger Jodi Koch, lock forward Shane Kennedy and replacement hooker Jacques van Zyl, who dropkicked the conversion.
