The poor form of Hottentots Holland Cricket Club’s (HHCC) first team continued at the weekend, as they crashed to a seven-wicket defeat against Ottoman CC in Surrey Estate.
The sides met in a First Division A match on Saturday (13 January), with the visitors’ batsmen and bowlers struggling to get a grasp on the encounter.
Ottoman CC won the toss and sent HHCC into bat on a tricky wicket. The visiting batters could not assert themselves and they struggled to string together any decent partnerships as they were bowled out for 106 in 34 overs. Only veteran player Abdul Aziz Temoor (54) managed to provided some form of resistance.
In the bowling department, the Strand outfit also struggled to tame the Ottoman CC batters, who made light work of the target, crossing the line with seven wickets in hand. Shameel Abels (2/18) was the pick of the HHCC bowlers.
The team will look to overhaul things when they host Northerns Goodwood CC this Saturday (20 January).
Meanwhile, the HHCC second team hosted their Bellville CC counterparts in a 50-over match at the Navy Sports Grounds in Gordon’s Bay. The visitors batted first and were bowled out for a competitive 202 runs. Imtiyaaz Oslodien (3/37) and Ricardo Naidoo (3/34) were the chief destroyers for the local team.
In the HHCC innings half centuries by Naeem Rhoda and Ilyaas Petersen guided them to a two-wicket victory to maintain the team’s unbeaten status and place at the top of the log.
The HHCC third team were in action against Wynberg CC in Bergvliet. The visitors batted first and scored 219/7 in their alloted 35 overs, with a massive contribution by Ebrahim Pedro (101*) dominating the performance. On the bowling front Byron Basdeo and Yusuf Stuart each claimed three scalps to guide HHCC to well-deserved victory.
