Critical electricity maintenance to a substation in the Helderberg will result in an interruption to electricity in parts of the area on Saturday 8 June and Saturday 15 June from 06:00 to 20:00, depending on weather conditions.
As a result of the complex nature of the infrastructure work, supply will be interrupted and the time of restoration may be delayed by a few hours.
“Our teams will work as quickly as possible to complete all upgrades within the 06:00 to 20:00 communicated time,” the City of Cape Town said in a statement. “Some news channels could imply this work affects all areas in the city; this is not true. It will be carried out in the Helderberg only.”
The affected areas will be: Triangle industrial area; Helderberg Village; Remhoogte; Jonkershoogte, Heldervue; Steenbras View; Helena Heights; Greenway Rise; Goede Hoop; and Dorhill.
An area outage map can be found online at https://bit.ly/3UZpsIB. The interruption will affect only the highlighted area on the map.
Residents are advised that the electricity supply could be restored at any time, and customers must treat all electrical installations as live for the duration of the interruption.
Residents are encouraged to switch off all appliances as a precaution and avoid damage caused by surges when the electricity is reconnected.
