My paved driveway, and that of many other residents, was damaged by one of the contractors that recently re-tarred the road in Kleinbos Avenue, Strand.
The tarring was done close to a trench that was dug to lay cables in close proximity to my property.
The damage was caused by a black tar-like spray that was applied before the road was tarred. My wife returned home and drove through this black stuff into our property. There was no sign or employee that informed us not to drive through it. After my wife brought this to the attention of the supervisor he threw sand over the black stuff in front of all the driveways.
He promised to get the tar removed.
After weeks had passed I noticed the supervisor and asked him when the tar will be cleaned from my driveway. He was very arrogant and aggressive and told me he did not have time for my shit and he will not entertain me. He said he informed all the residents that they must be careful and avoid the tar, which is a blatant lie. All the residents can confirm this.
The contractor must be taken to task. They are responsible for the damage they caused and must fix it. Clearly they don’t listen to the residents because at the end of the day it is the City of Cape Town that pays them.
We want our properties the same way as before.
