It is a beautiful evening in Helderberg with stars shining bright in the sky, the evening breeze playful and inviting to all those who wander outside to enjoy its evening coolness.
After a long hard day of people bustling in the streets, hawkers shouting their offerings of “tamaties, appeltjies en pere sommer cheap, cheap”, cars hooting and spewing gasses all over, you sit back and enjoy the quiet evening company of nature.
But there she was, walking to the street corner with quick short steps as if something was chasing her! Then she stopped and stood under the bright, yellow street light, with only the stop sign in attendance.
You notice the high-heel shoes with straps around the ankles and lots of glittering hues as she paces a few steps left and then back again. Her skirt is short and shows legs nicely shaped, and the blouse white with frills. Her hair curled and shining as the breeze plays lightly with it.
And she waits.
Then a security patrol car stops and she is asked why she stands alone at night in the street. She shrugs her shoulders and says “I am a businesswoman and this spot here is my office. Now scoot, as you chase my customers away!” The “customer” arrives and she gets into the silver Mercedez Benz to conclude the business of the day.
You wonder, does she have diamonds on the soles of her shoes? How many more corners must she endure to feed herself and perhaps a family?
