Strand: Mike McCully and the Harmonix bring their new smash hit show, Hits of the 70s and 80s to the Drama Factory stage at 19:30. Local audiences can look forward to the usual Harmonix line-up with Mike himself on drums and vocals, Gordon Mackay on keys and vocals, Warren (Rabbit) Lomberg on lead guitar and Neil Peyton as bassist. Fronting lead vocals are the phenomenal duo of Sjanel Vosloo and Kea Brand. Iconic songs such as “Hotel California”, “American Pie”, “Crocodile Rock”, “Honkey Tonk Women”, “Locomotive Breath”, “Smoke on the Water”, and not forgetting McCully’s own “Buccaneer” are all part of the repertoire that will have audiences on their feet, while Vosloo and Brand raise the roof with songs by Queen, Heart, Tina Turner, Journey and many more. At the end of the show which features 24 hits, locals are asked to sing along with the whole cast to the Pink Floyd anthem Another brick in the wall. Gordon’s Bay: The Compassionate Friends will host a candle lighting ceremony in memory of children, grandchildren, siblings and babies born as angels and loved ones of all ages in the clubhouse of the Summervale Lifestyle Estate in Lemoenboom Street, 15:30 for 16:00. The annual event is held to remember those gone too soon, especially as the festive season has a way of bringing the dearly departed to mind and making one more aware of that empty chair in the house. The programme includes a slot to share a message of hope, a poem, letter, CD or DVD recording of their choice (maximum three minutes). There will also be some musical items and a special video in memory of the departed. Somerset West: The Friends of the Richard Dawkins Association (Forda) meets at Sage & Thyme Village Coffee Shop at 28 Circle Centre in Caledon Street, at 18:00 for 18:30. James “Jim” Underdown is the guest speaker and will present a talk entitled “Feet to the Fire”. He has been the executive director of the Center for Inquiry-Los Angeles since 1999. He has written for both Skeptical Inquirer and Free Inquiry magazines, and is founder and chairperson of the Center for Inquiry Investigations Group, the US’s premiere paranormal investigation team.
