The Strand community was shocked to receive news of the passing of committed community leader Adley Arnold in the early hours of Thursday 5 June.
From a young age he was active as a sports administrator, serving as chairperson of the Strand Sports Board of Control. He also served on the board of the Light of Islam Mosque Committee, was a member of the Somerset Rugby Board, committee member of the Strand Pioneers Rugby Club, a SA Cup referee (non-racial SARU), and served as chairperson of the Somerset Rugby Board Referees Association.
He also operated a burial society, where he assisted community members with the burial of loved ones. His leadership of the Strand Sports Board of Control saw the Gustrouw Sports Complex and netball courts at the Abattoir Sports Grounds established.
His jovial nature made him a likeable person who will sadly missed by many. His burial took place under Muslim rights in Strand on Thursday 5 June.
