Local judokas Jacques Uffindell and Liam Reyneke excelled in the 44th Africa Judo Championship held in Casablanca, Morocco, from Monday 4 to Sunday 10 September, clinching gold in the Kata section.

Members of Kadoshi JudoKwai, which is based in Somerset West, were selected to participate in the Nage-no-Kata (Formal Demonstration of Techniques) in the Kata section of the championships.

Judo is practised in two different formats – Kata (of which there are seven different katas representing all the techniques in Judo) and Randori, which is actual physical contest between two judoka.

Another member of the club, Ilse Reyneke, was also selected as team manager of the SA Team to the African Championships. In total the team bagged three bronze medals and one gold.

The club conducts three classes, one for novices, one for juniors and a senior class.
