The Ikhwezi Community Day Centre (CDC) boasts a pharmacy rated Grade A, the highest possible standard obtainable from the national Pharmacy Council.
This achievement was marked by a small celebration hosted at the Nomzamo facility on Friday 30 September. The accolade is seen as the cherry on top of sustained hard work from the pharmacy staff at the centre, championed by the Responsible Pharmacist Lindy Mckenzie.
The Ikhwezi Pharmacy went from being a Grade C facility in 2021, when Mckenzie took over, to Grade A, following an unannounced inspection in July.
A pharmacy’s grading is calculated by using a weighted questionnaire, and this determines the frequency of a pharmacy inspection, with Grade A frequency of inspection every three years, Grade B every two years and Grade C every year.
“I want to tip my hat to this extraordinary effort from staff at our Ikhwezi Pharmacy, and especially the Responsible Pharmacist for driving the process to make this achievement a reality,” said the City’s Community Services and Health Portfolio Committee chairperson, Councillor Ronel Viljoen.
“They went above and beyond in making the changes they wanted to see in their work environment for the benefit of the surrounding communities. They are true ambassadors for the City, and I applaud every one of them for the role they played in getting that Grade A status.
