A 33-year-old woman who is one of two wanted in connection with a recent incident linked to human trafficking was traced to the basin and apprehended.

The arrest follows after two young foreign nationals believed to have been trafficked into South Africa were rescued from a dwelling in George on 16 December last year. Warrants of arrest were authorised for the two alleged suspects responsible for trafficking the two victims into the country.

Warrants of arrest were issued for the two suspects implicated in this trafficking. On Thursday 14 March, authorities followed up on a tip-off that one of the wanted suspects was in Strand. Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), commonly known as the Hawks, reacted swiftly, and Patience Precious Abudu was apprehended for trafficking in people, thanks to the efforts of the Serious Organised Crime Investigation team in collaboration with the Department of Home Affairs, Strand police and Strand Neighbourhood Watch.

She was found with two passports, various bank cards and R29 000 cash in her possession. Abudu made her first appearance in the George Magistrates’ Court on Friday 15 March. She remains in custody until her next expected appearance on Thursday 18 April.
