A brilliant cricketing display by Jovan Snyman and Jason-Lee Josephs saw the first team of Somerset West Cricket Club (SWCC) record a mammoth 247-run victory over their Atlantis CC counterparts at Radloff Park this past Saturday (12 March).
Snyman led the charge with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 122 runs, while Josephs claimed eight scalps in his team’s ruthless bowling onslaught. The bonus-point victory further cemented the team’s place at the top of First Division C log, with the final two matches set to be played this coming weekend.
On Saturday, SWCC captain Larry Morkel won the toss and elected to bat. The skipper and Snyman were in fine nick as they knocked the Atlantis bowlers around the park, setting their team up handsomely with a 125-run partnership before Morkel (60) lost his wicket at the start of the 34th over.
After Wiehann Meyer (15) lost his wicket, Jan Rademan (60*) joined Snyman in the middle and the pair took SWCC to 275/2 after 50 overs.
The home side’s opening bowlers, the evergreen James Albanie (1/14) and rising young star Josephs (8/12), were in devastating form and showed no mercy from the start, bowling the Atlantis team out for a putrid 28/9 in just 15,5 overs, to take their team to a very memorable bonus-point victory.
This coming weekend, the Somerset West charges will look to secure victory and league glory when they take on two teams on the final weekend of the fixtures. They will take on Helderberg CC at Helderzicht Sports Ground on Saturday (19 March), and Blue Bells CC at Radloff Park on Monday (21 March).
