House partially gutted in Mountainside fire

A vegetation fire along Suikerbossie Drive at Mountainside in Gordon’s Bay, fuelled by the wind on Monday morning (7 October), threatened several homes and partially damaged one house before it was brought under control. According to Jermaine Carelse, spokesperson for the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Service, they received the call at 10:00 and several firefighting resources responded immediately. “One property was slightly damaged and the fire was brought under control just after 12:00,” he said. At least seven fire engines with 40 firefighters remained on the scene for the rest of the day.Photo: Barend J Williams
