Four cashiers and a security guard at Shoprite Broadway in Strand allegedly fell prey to armed robbers around 15:00 on Monday (3 October).
The victims were apparently on their way to the cash office in the supermarket when they were stopped by four unknown men.
Provincial police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said one of the suspects allegedly took out a firearm and threatened the victims.
“The robbers loaded the cash into a bag and fled the scene after assaulting the victims,” said Swartbooi. “No shots were fired and Lwandle police are investigating a case of business robbery.”
