Two people died in a fatal collision on the N2 highway outside Macassar in the early hours of Saturday 17 August. Authorities, including Macassar police and traffic officers, responded to the collision. According to Kevin Jacobs, spokesperson for the City of Cape Town’s Traffic Service, officers responded to the incident following an emergency call at 01:13 and arrived on the scene at 01:26. “One motor vehicle was involved, and the location was on the N2, underneath the Kramat Bridge.” According to provincial police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi first responders found the motor vehicle, a brown Toyota Cruiser static in the road and two male occupants, who were possibly flung out of the vehicle, lying in the road. The victims were declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel. Macassar police spokesperson Warrant Officer Desire Adendolf confirmed circumstances surrounding the incident remain unknown at this stage of the culpable-homicide investigation, and both deceased are Zimbabwean nationals from Grassy Park. City traffic officers and firefighters also responded to another incident in Macassar Road on Sunday morning (18 August), where a vehicle had caught alight due to mechanical failure, around 07:45.
