Hottentots Holland Cricket Club’s (HHCC) first team trotted to yet another victory in the Western Province First Division B league, when they travelled to face Edgemead CC this past Saturday (12 March).
HHCC lost the toss and were put in to bat, but the loss of two early wickets immediately put the visitors on the back foot. A decent 40-run partnership between Irshaad Salie and Mieftaah Oliver followed and put HHCC back on track.
Edgemead managed to grab two wickets before the drinks break, leaving HHCC reeling in 48/4. A few decent partnerships towards the end of the innings lifted the HHCC boys to a defendable 152 (all out) with captain Rasool Thomas top-scoring with 42 runs and Salie contributing with 30 runs.
With ball in-hand, HHCC were a team on fire. Opening bowlers Imtiyaaz Oslodien and veteran star Riyaad Oliver grabbed two wickets apiece as the home side struggled on 40/4 after 22 overs.
Thomas brought himself into the attack and he ripped Edgemead apart as he picked up four quick wickets in a man-of-the-match bowling display. Edgemead were all bowled out for 112, handing HHCC a 40-run victory. Thomas (4/22), Oliver (2/20), Oslodien (2/29) and Abdul Aziz Temoor (2/24) were the pick of the bowlers.
The HHCC third team hosted WPCC at Abattoir Sports Ground in Strand on the same day. The hosts won the toss and decided to field first – a vital decision as Amier Oliver bowled a sensational spell to record figures of 5/13. He was well supported by fellow opening bowler Ismaeel Smit (2/23) in the team, bowling the visitors for 75.
At the change of innings, HHCC made light work of the target, losing only one wicket in the process. Yaasien Railoun (40*) and Warren Tregonning (28*) were the pick of the batsmen.
This coming weekend sees all three men’s teams of HHCC and the women’s team in action in two matches.
On Saturday 19 March, the first team hosts Avendale CC and the second team hosts MPCC. The third team travels to town to take on Cape Town CC and the women’s team will also be in action against a team yet to be announced on Sunday 20 March.
On Monday 21 March, the first team host St Augustine CC, the second team plays away to St Augustine CC, the thirds host Primrose CC and the women’s team will host Mitchells Plain CC.
