The dip in form for the first team of Hottentots Holland Cricket Club (HHCC) continued on Saturday 12 February, as they slumped to a 37-run defeat at home to Kuils River CC.
The sides met in a First Division B match at the Naval Sports Ground in Gordon’s Bay. HHCC won the toss and decided to field on what seemed to be a tricky wicket.
The visitors never really settled and were dismissed for 149, with the HHCC spinners controlling much of the innings. Veteran spinner Abdul Aziz Temoor (3/19) and Mieftaah Oliver (3/20) were the pick of the bowlers.
In the batting department, the home side regularly lost wickets and struggled to string together any good partnerships. They were eventually all bowled out for 113, falling 37 runs short of the target. Yaseen Jakoet (44) was the only batsman who managed to play a decent innings for HHCC.
Meanwhile, the HHCC second team continued their winning ways as they recorded a well-deserved seven-wicket victory over Yorkshire CC at Abattoir Sports Ground in Strand on the same day.
The hosts fielded first and were on the back foot throughout the innings, with Yorkshire raking in the runs and score a massive 275/7 in their 50 overs. For HHCC, captain Abdullah Arnold (4/37) and Fuad Behardien (2/9) were the pick of the bowlers.
In their innings, HHCC started shakily as they lost two wickets early. This brought Behardien and Zakarieya Brinkhuis to the crease, and the pair took to the Yorkshire bowling attack and destroyed them in their match-winning 230-run partnership.
Behardien blasted his way to an amazing 150*, while Brinkhuis played a supportive role and managed to graft and nudge his way 55 on their way to their team’s seven-wicket triumph.
The HHCC third team travelled to Surrey Estate to face Ottomans CC at the weekend. The home side took first strike and scored a commanded 249/5 in their allotted 35 overs.
The visiting batsmen fell well short of the target, only managing 165/5 in their 35 overs. Aaqib Achmat (64) and Wahid Martin (46) were the team’s top scorers.
This coming weekend, the HHCC first team will host Yorkshire CC, while the third team is in action against Northerns-Goodwood CC at home and the women’s team also host Milnerton CC (home).
The second team will enjoy a bye.
