The Helderberg Ratepayers Association (HRA) and the Gordon’s Bay Business Association (GBBA) have announced a significant strategic partnership aimed at fostering greater collaboration and alignment for the benefit of their shared community.
While both organisations will maintain their independent structures, they have formalised their commitment to cooperation through a mutual accreditation agreement.
This agreement also sees representatives from each organisation serving on the other’s board, signifying a unified approach to community development, transparency, and shared goals.
In a joint statement released last week, both the HRA and the GBBA expressed their enthusiasm for this new chapter. They confirmed that they have reached an integrated view on several key local issues, the specifics of which are outlined in a jointly agreed visual summary (available via the HRA website). These key areas of focus include community development, infrastructure, business support, and service delivery. This strategic partnership is expected to yield several benefits for the Helderberg region, including:
โข Unified communication: A stronger, collective voice on matters of shared concern affecting residents and businesses alike.
โข Collaborative community initiatives: The pooling of resources and expertise to undertake more impactful projects and initiatives for the betterment of the community.
โข Potential for future structural alignment: While currently operating independently, the partnership leaves open the possibility of closer structural integration in the future, should both organisations mutually agree.

The HRA and GBBA emphasised that this partnership is driven by a shared commitment to building a stronger and more inclusive Gordon’s Bay and the broader Helderberg community. By working together, they aim to amplify their impact and ensure a more cohesive approach to addressing the needs and aspirations of the community they serve.
Andrew Jansen van Vuuren, chairperson of the HRA, commented: “We want to work together to advance our common goals, and to be a voice and coordinate with powers to be in a more effective way.”
Basil Cranko of the GBBA concurred, and added that “this mutual association” will have positive consequences for all residents and business owners in the area.
