Helderberg firefighters Jermaine Carelse and Renaldo Duncan once again toughed out the Totalsports Two Oceans half-marathon in full firefighting gear to raise awareness and funds for Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS). The VWS, a vital volunteer organisation combatting wildfires, urgently needs a new vehicle. Carelse and Duncan successfully ran the race kitted out in their thick bunker gear clothing, helmets and breathing apparatus, all in just over three hours. “These unsung volunteer heroes are trained in wildland firefighting and always answer the call when disaster strikes. But they need our help to keep doing what they do best!” said JP Smith, Mayoral Committee member for Safety and Security. The firefighters are asking for donations of just R21 per person and encouraging people to share their efforts and tag them if they donate via the link (https://vws.org.za/two-oceans-firefighters/).
