The first team of Hottentots Holland Cricket Club recorded its third consecutive victory on the road, following a four-wicket victory over Bishop Lavis CC on Saturday (29 January).
HHCC won the toss and decided to field on a tricky pitch. It seemed to be the right decision as the home team’s batsmen struggled to get going and were eventually all bowled out for 154 runs.
For the men from Strand, Yasien Jakoet delivered an outstanding bowling spell and picking up a fifer for only 32 runs. He was well supported by Shameel Abels (2/27).
In the batting department, HHCC lost early wickets and were in trouble at 20/3. But grit and determination was shown by Waleed Smith (52) as he nudged his way to a well-played half century. Veteran all-rounder Abdul Aziz Temoor (35*) played a solid innings to steer HHCC to victory. Jakoet (22) also added to the batting tally.
Meanwhile, the HHCC second team travelled to Observatory to face Montrose CC, who batted first and set-up a competitive 229/8 in their 50 overs. Zain Railoun (3/45) and Eesa Petersen (2/25) were the pick of the bowlers for Hottentots Holland.
The opening pair of Irshaad Salie and Uthmaan Sha were in devastating form from the get-go of the innings, putting on a formidable 150-plus run opening stand to put HHCC in the driving seat.
Captain Salie (80) and Sha (58) lost their wickets, which left Mieftaah Oliver (40*) to finish the innings with a quick-fire knock and take the HHCC boys to a mammoth seven-wicket bonus-point victory with 10 overs to spare.
The HH third team hosted Milnerton CC at the Naval Sports Ground in Gordon’s Bay. The home side batted first and posted a lowly 139 (all-out) with Abu Bakr Rhoda (45) and Yusuf Stuart (29*) the only batsmen to score runs.
The visitors came out guns blazing and smashed the total down with only the loss of one wicket to win by nine wickets.
This coming weekend the first team takes on Montrose in Observatory, the seconds travel to Kensington for a match against Kensington CC and the thirds host their Cravenby CC counterparts in Gordon’s Bay.
