Tatum Gquma, a learner at Somerset West Methodist Primary School, excelled at the Western Cape Championships for Level 1 to 3 Women’s Artistic Gymnastics, held in Saldanha Bay from Thursday 20 to Saturday 22 July. The nine-year-old gymnast bagged a gold medal after clinching overall first place in the Level 2 (9-10 years) category. Tatum took up gymnastics as an avid member of the Royals Gymnastics Club and competed in the Level 1 category for the first time last year. She has since joined Mega Gymnastics Academy in Montague Gardens, which she represented in the provincial championships. The natural talent has been selected to compete at the district trails for Level 4 and higher to be held in Brackenfell from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 August. If she makes the team, she will also be in action at the Western Cape Championships to be held in Saldanha Bay from Friday 1 to Sunday 3 September.
