The annual Helderberg Anti Guy Fawkes Event was held for the community to enjoy at Strand Beach on Saturday 5 November, starting with a beach clean and donation drop-off for Animal Welfare Society Helderberg. Only 11 bags of litter were removed after a bustling Saturday, which proved beach visitors are becoming conscious about taking their litter home. The event, organised with the support of Lisa Starr of Helderberg Ocean Awareness Movement (Hoam), was opened by a group of children from the Somerset West Family Shelter, who Karen Strydom of Fire and Flow has been teaching the art of poi and hooping. As always, Bevil Spence of Drumba Rhythm for Life was beating out the music with students and friends. Over 100 kg of food was collected and around R380 in donations.
