Various organisations in the Helderberg are teaming up to clean the Lourens River ahead of the approaching winter.
The community are called on to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty on Sunday 15 May from 08:30 to 10:30, all in aid of a cleaner environment. Apart from the planned clean-up of litter from the river and its banks, alien vegetation will also be cleared by a team of hackers during the two-hour session.
Organisations set to partner for the event are Helderberg Ocean Awareness Movement (Hoam); Helderberg Sunrise Rotary Club; Lourens River Conservation Society (LRCS); and Somerset West Bird Club. The DistrictMail & Helderberg Gazette team will also do their bit by joining the local conservationists on the day.
The litter clean-up is driven by Hoam, while the LRCS is taking the lead with the vegetation hack.
