Arthur Dickinson and his granny Beth Schultz were among numerous Helderbergers who put their green fingers to work to breathe new life into Poinsettia Park in Heldervue, Somerset West. Locals were called to join a tree planting held on Heritage Day (Saturday 24 September), an initiative spearheaded by The Friends of Poinsettia Park, which joined forces with the City of Cape Town to convert the park into a green community space. The greening started with the morning tree planting as part of a greater initiative aimed at establishing a vegetable garden and designated picnic areas. A special “thank you” was extended to Wadr 15 councillor Gregory Peck and Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis for their support, Pieter Appel and his team from the City who dug the holes for the 65 indigenous trees planted on the day, everyone who bought, donated and planted trees as well as Helderberg Sunrise Rotary Club, Remhoogte Nursery, Stodels and Barnies TerraFlora. Anyone interested in joining The Friends of Poinsettia Park can contact Erna Wetzel on 082 854 3177.
