Raquel Meissenheimer made sure she greeted her “fur sister” Jamie-Lee Mac with a slobbery peck before leaving home to start Grade 1 at Beaumont Primary School on the first day of the new academic year (Wednesday 19 January). The duo had a special farewell before Raquel embarked on her exciting new adventure at big school and clearly share a very special bond. Every morning the four-legged pooch is at her sister’s bedside to wake her up for the brand-new day. Just like for Raquel, a new era dawned for hundreds of nervous but excited Helderbergers yesterday, as they entered the gates of schools for their first day in Grade 1 along with the older learners returning back to the classroom. This week’s newspaper features three pages of photos to mark the momentous occasion.
