Beekeepers Lourens and Dylan Kruger previously promoted their Yellow Box initiative at Helderberg Hospice during its 2022 Open Gardens Festival. Together they create these yellow catch-boxes, champion the removal of nuisance swarms and collect the proceeds in aid of hospice. In honour of World Bee Day (20 May), Cape Honeybee Conservancy launched an exciting month-long competition with Helderberg Hospice as the beneficiary, combining their love of bees with the community organisation’s commitment for caring for those in need.

The association between the organisations has been years in the making. Lourens and Dylan Kruger of the Cape Honeybee Conservancy started the Yellow Box project at Helderberg Hospice Open Gardens, where part of the fees charged for rehousing bees have been donated to Helderberg Hospice. They helped gently rehouse an enormous swarm that had taken up residence in the chimney of the Helderberg Hospice Support Centre, reducing risk to patients and staff alike.

The father-son-duo is passionate about bees and the role they play in conserving our environment and have chosen to share their passion and generosity with Helderberg Hospice. Only 500 tickets were made available, and there are still a few up for grabs so don’t delay in visiting Helderberg Hospice website https://helderberghospice.org.za/product/world-bee-day-fundraiser-support-helderberg-hospice/

For only R100 per ticket, your support in this raffle will ensure that individuals and families facing life-limiting illnesses receive the care and comfort they deserve just as bees work tirelessly to pollinate and sustain life.

You have a 1 in 500 chance to win one of the following amazing prizes:. A Private Chef Experience – a dining experience for six in the comfort of your own home. A weekend away at The Boudoir in Riebeek Kasteel for two. A bee experience at Morgenster Estate with Cape Honeybee Conservancy.

V The live draw of winners will take place on air with HelderbergFM at 13:15 on Friday 21 June.
