On Mandela Day, Hendrik Louw Primary School learners participated in a heart-warming initiative at Sencit Resthaven Old Age Home, where they devoted 67 minutes of their time to distributing a remarkable collection of more than 800 hand-knitted items, which they had made and collated as donations for the residents. The initiative formed part of the annual knit-along driven by local radio and TV personality Tracey Lange and the Strand Primary School was selected as one of three schools to be ambassadors for the Kfm 94.5 #GeKnitDitMetTraceyLange. The Somerset West native with help from the very keen Louwtjies encouraged people to knit, crochet or donate warm items, and also urged them to spend 67 minutes connecting with elderly individuals on Mandela Day “Knit one, purl one for worthy cause,” News24, 10 July). The learners took this mission to heart and made sure to bring joy and comfort to the elderly residents at Strand facility. During their visit last Tuesday the young ambassadors entertained the seniors with beautiful songs and music performed by their talented violinists.
