With its belief that entrepreneurship will build a better South Africa, the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation is calling on primary school learners to create change, by applying for its high school scholarship.
The programme is dedicated to developing the next generation of entrepreneurs and applications are now open for learners who excel academically, want to make a meaningful difference in the world and demonstrate a financial need.
The foundation’s partner schools across South Africa offer quality education and, if the applicant is accepted, learners will be placed at a partner school which provides access to a good education, extra-mural activities and boarding facilities where needed.
During the five years of high school, the beneficiaries will also participate in the foundation’s development programme, which aims to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset and enhance leadership qualities.
Additionally, the programme also focuses on personal mastery and academic excellence to provide an environment for youths to reach and grow their potential.
Applicants must be must be in Grade 6 this year, obtain a minimum of 70% for English and mathematics, obtain a minimum of 70% average for their remaining subjects and demonstrate entrepreneurial characteristics such as growth mindset, self-efficacy, leadership, opportunity identification, curiosity and problem-solving.
Those applying must also be a South African citizen with a valid identity document number, demonstrate financial need and not be older than 12 or younger than 11 in Grade 6.
