Friends Serving the Community (Friesco), an organisation founded by a group of friends from Strand, is calling for the community’s support for its toiletries drive.
The organisation was established before the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, when the Friesco members started hosting soup kitchens as a means to counter hunger in the communities it serves.
Their efforts intensified during the lockdown, as many households faced tough times as a result of job and income losses.
The organisation also hosted a special Christmas event for children of Gustrouw at the end of last year, as well as a stationery collection drive and back-to-school event in January.
Now it is calling on local businesses and residents to support the toiletries drive through donations, which will be distributed to children in Broadlands Park, Casablanca, Erijaville and Sercor Park on Monday 21 March. Donations of soap, face cloths, toothpaste, toothbrushes, roll-on, sanitary towels and toilet paper will be welcomed.
