On Thursday (19 October) a joint tracing and monitoring operation was conducted by Lwandle police and the Department of Correctional Services into parolees which resulted in the arrest of four suspects on suspicion of possession of stolen property.
Officers and members of Somerset West Correctional Services visited the address of a parolee situated at Wag ’n Bietjie informal settlement in Nomzamo at 21:00 and found four males there. According to Sergeant Mthokozisi Gama, spokesperson for Lwandle police, officers searched the house and found certain electronic items the four suspects couldn’t account for, especially whom they belonged to, and all were immediately arrested.
A laptop, tablet, keyboards, LCD monitors, remote controls used for jamming, cellphones, sim cards, various bank cards and knives were discovered in the house.
“We discovered that among the suspects one was an ex-offender recently released from prison and another, a parolee, was still under correction service supervision.
“The suspects between the ages of 26 and 36 are due to make a court appearance in the Strand Magistrates’ Court soon once they are charged for possession of presumed suspected stolen property,” says Gama.
The police and correctional services have appealed to residents of the precinct to alert them to any criminal activities taking place in their neighbourhoods and to report ex-offenders and parolees, whom they suspect are busy with illegal activities.
Lwandle police station commander Lieutenant Colonel Thembisile Senaya conveyed a word of appreciation to all the officers for going the extra mile and he thanks the community for taking hands and working with the police.
